Military Journal Blog - A place to keep updated with the comings and goings of the editor, upcoming projects and events!

Empire Total War - The biggest and by far the best Total War game is due for release sometime in 2008. In support of the project we have a section dedicated the the game - our favourite period too!

Release date: 2008 | Developer: Creative Assembly | Publisher: Sega | Period: 18th Century | www.totalwar.com

Back in August Creative Assembly announced the upcoming release of the latest instalment of the Total War series, Empire. Set in the turbulent 18th Century Empire promises to be the biggest and best ever TW game, perhaps of all strategy games. The biggest new feature is the 3D real time naval combat, which even at this early stage looks amazing, with crew and marines running around on deck.

In a press announcement in August CA said: “PC Gamers will be able to intuitively command vast fleets or single ships upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummelling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board taking control your men as they fight hand to hand on the decks.”

Mike Simpson, Studio Director at The Creative Assembly said, “We’re genuinely excited about what we’re achieving with the naval battles and also by the scale of the improvements being made to the core of the game – the land battles and the campaign. This will undoubtedly be the biggest and best Total War™ game we’ve ever made.”

The biggest and best it certainly looks, even at this stage, or is that me just being bias since its the 18th century? No way! This game will easily be the biggest game of 2008 and of all strategy titles up until now.

So what can we expect in Empire?

● Historical characters including the Duke of Marlbourgh, Wellington, Peter the Great
