Survive to Fight

Survive to Fight booklet was distributed to the Regular Army and reserves from 1983 and addressed various tasks, potential threats, and provided guidance on how soldiers could effectively respond to these challenges in order to safeguard themselves against nuclear, biological, or chemical attacks. The ringbound booklet was prepared by the Director of Army Training and printed by HMSO in June 1983.

To date, five editions have been released, along with two reprint runs. The first three editions are presented as ring-bound manuals with plastic covers, while the most recent, Edition 5, consists of an 82-page loose-leaf TAM insert designed for a six-hole ring binder. Edition I (AC71388) addresses the operation of the S6 Respirator and Mk.III NBC suit along with overboots.

Edition II, published in 1990 and reprinted in 1992 with a color photograph on the cover, focuses on the S10 Respirator and the Mk.IV suit and overboots that were introduced subsequently. Edition III, released in 1995 with a different color photograph on the cover and reprinted once with a glue-bound format around 1998, serves as a revised version of Edition II, incorporating the Mk.V overboots. Edition IV, published in January 2002, is a TAM side-bound booklet. The final edition, titled ‘Survive to Fight,’ was released in September 2005 as Edition 5, although it bears Army Code 64358 rather than a JSP designation.

In July 2012, the title of the publication was updated to JSP926 ‘Counter CBRN Aide Memoire’ to better align with evolving operational conditions. This booklet maintains the same loose-leaf TAM insert format and continues to be available in this format, with the added option of downloading it for use on mobile devices or laptops.
